Robertsport is a town in western Liberia, situated approximately 10 miles (16 km) from the Sierra Leone border. The town is named after Joseph Jenkins Roberts, the first president of Liberia. It lies on the Cape Mount peninsula, a spit of land that separates the brackish lagoon Lake Piso from the Atlantic Ocean. Robertsport is located about 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Monrovia, the capital of Liberia.
Geographically, Robertsport's coast features five point breaks, including three main points known for surfing: Fisherman's Point, closest to town; Cotton Trees; and Cassava Point. The area has become a popular destination for surfers, especially since the Second Liberian Civil War. American visitors introduced surfing to the region, and local surfers like Robert Lomax and Philip Banini have contributed to its development as a seaside resort for surfing. The Robertsport Surf Club continues to promote surfing lessons and fishing trips in the area.
